Well y'all know I don't really go all politik on here. Not my cup of tea. I do have strong opinions, and I'll be glad to jump in on a conversation any day, but my opinions are personal and I don't really use my blog as a place to parade those opinions. I generally vote conservatively, so yes, I was disappointed in last night's outcome, but it's over and it's time to move on! Whether it's the man I voted for or not, I've got a new president. And as an American, he'll have my respect and support. And while my personal views on policy are not in line with his, I'll stand behind him.
I understand people being disappointed when their candidate of choice doesn't win, but to be devastated? Give me a break. Neither one of these candidates will change my life personally. Neither of them can solve my problems. In the end, I'm responsible for me. NOT them. Yes, it matters, and yes, it affects us as a country, but anyone who thinks that any president is going to "fix things" and solve all their problems is sniffin' glue. And to those who proclaim they're going to leave the country if so-and-so is elected... go ahead! Perhaps some world travel will give you a little perspective. You don't know how good you've got it here.
But no matter whom you voted for, it's a historic day here. And I am SO proud to be an American!

Well said! Though I didn't vote for Obama either, I think it's in the best interest of our country and myself to support him and pray that he does a good job. His values aren't mine, but, hey neither were Bill Clinton's and I'm still here and the world didn't end! ;)
I agree. The government (at least now) affects me very little, and what little is does affect me I can compensate for...for the most part. Over. Done with. Moving on.

I for one, appreciate your attitude...wish we could get everyone to have that attitude rather than send hateful emails and regurgitate ignorant lies. You're perfectly entitled to have different political views from friends or fellow bloggers and I appreciate it when we can all be respectful about it. And that shows true pride in being an American!
Very well stated! I was disappointed in the outcome also, but I will also continue to stand behind our government and our country and pray that they will be guided as they make decisions.
I agree, we must move on. But who the President and who is in the House and Senate DOES affect you personally.
I won't go into it all here, but you are sadly mistaken if you think it doesn't affect you.
A lot of people (myself included)are devastated because everything our forefathers, Dad's and husbands have fought for in wars (free market, non-socialist views, 2nd amendment right) are in jeopardy.
I've had several military people tell me that everything they went to war for or served their country for has all been wiped away.
I am devastated because on September 11, I stood and helplessly watched a plan fly into the Pentagon. Those men that did that had SSN's and Driver's Licenses. Now, this President wants to give all illegal aliens SSN's and licenses. It scares me.
So, now that I've explained to you why some can be devastated, I'll end on a positive note.
Yes, Mr. Obama IS my President. As an American, he has my respect and my prayers. You will not see any tacky bumper stickers on my car, and I won't badmouth him.
And I also think his presence is going to heal a lot of old wounds that have been lingering in this country for so many years.
I just wanted to explain why so many people took this election so hard.
Some great points there, Kathie - thank you! And just to be clear, I'm not at all saying it's not important, or that who is in office doesn't really matter. It certainly matters and that's why I vote, and I have a lot of the same concerns you do - trust me. So of course it affects me, BUT at at the end of the day, I don't count on any president (be it the one I voted for or not) to take care of ME. So in that aspect, I'll be just fine. And I also know that God's got his own agenda in all of this, and with that faith, I don't need anything else.
